Cat MacIntyre, Humanitarian

This is my nextdoor neighbor Cat. She is nice. Not only has she put up with the often startling sounds and smells coming from our house for the past 5 years, but she also is attempting to single-handedly defeat the local housing crisis by selling her home to a rad young family for a fraction of its fairly obscene 'market' value. This is after signing over not only her first but also her second Covid stimulus check to worthy local non-profits like Kulshan Community Land Trust and Bellingham Food Bank.

"I'm on a fixed income," she said at the time with a shrug. "I don't need this extra money."

The concept of 'extra money' is not one that gets much play in these pre-apocalyptic times, but Cat put hers where her mouth is every chance she gets.

We'll miss her, but are looking forward to getting to know our new neighbors who wouldn't otherwise be able to establish permanence in Sunnyland or probably any neighborhood in Bellingham without Cat's mercy and grace.

And the best part of this feel-good Friday tale is that we're having a garage sale to offload Cat's 'extra things' next weekend. Come by on Saturday for some bargains or even bring something of your own to sell-- we'll have plenty of space. And of course, all proceeds will go to Planned Parenthood, duh.
